Occupancy and room rates for Miami hotels had a significant increase last week, thanks to a group of skin care professionals.
According to Charlie Haz, spokesman for the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau, 19,400 attendees showed up for a meeting of the American Academy of Dermatology held at the Miami Beach Convention Center. The increase in occupancy and room rates for Miami hotels came on the fourth day of the meetings.
Occupancy rate for Miami hotels rose 14%, year-over-year, for the week ending March 13, according to Smith Travel Research. The county’s average daily room rate rose 5.9 %, to $181.04 from $170.95.
Broward saw occupancy increases of 8.7% and Palm Beach occupancy rates rose 13.7%.
Occupancy rates rose 4.6% across the U.S.
However, Broward and Palm Beach didn’t fare as well as Miami Hotels, in terms of average daily room rates. Broward’s average rate fell 3.5 percent, to $130.74 from $135.46. Palm Beach County’s average rate fell 2.4 percent, to $162.62 from $166.69.
The national average room went from $99.71 to $97.80, falling 1.9%.
